Letters To Coordinators' Corner

Corner vs Social Media

In response to an email that I sent to members (active and inactive) of Coordinators' Corner a former member suggested that the "Corner" may have outlived it's usefulness.

The following are excerpts from members who disagree with that suggestion:

"THE CORNER HAS NOT OUTLIVED IT'S USEFULNESS FOR ME!" Jeannie Ward, Wedding Jeannie

"like Jeannie this forum/site has NOT outlived it's usefulness to me either. I would never be as open or honest with my responses, questions or comments on FB as I am here. I do however like Facebook (as that is the only one I am on) because I can see pictures of all the gorgeous events the ladies here have done so I can get inspired without having to go to their individual sites (since I don't have all the time to do that as much as I'd love to) and I also get see other aspects of the wedding industry that are not on here like different photographers for example. I've seen some amazing photos from vendors who have 'friended' me when I decided to create the account. I personally have two accounts to keep my personal & professional life somewhat separate especially where I'm just starting out in this industry. I don't have any deep dark secrets but there may be aspects of me that I could be 'judged' just on sight without really 'knowing' me.

There isn't much for me to contribute here but I sure do learn alot from reading the posts from all these ladies who have been extremely helpful & supportive in my journey. I don't think I'd have gotten that kind of support just being on FB and just 'friending' those I have without knowing them on here first. This site/forum is invaluable to me even when there times that no one is posting anything because like many lives get busy and its hard to." A very happy newbie! Tracy

"I do not think the Corner has outlived it's usefulness and certainly hope you continue with the site. I log on every morning and love to read the posts from planners from around the country. I feel like it is a safe place to write things and express ideas that could never be written on Facebook or Twitter." Elizabeth Bailey, Elizabeth Bailey Weddings.

"Social media is sort of instant gratification but Coordinators Corner is meaningful, protected and trusted therefore has not outlasted its usefulness - personally I would never post a rant, a problem or a delicate situation anywhere on Twitter, FB etc but I will on CC. Thanks for the opportunity!" Amy Rubins Fete Perfections

"The "Corner" is a different animal than social media. As the others have said...we'll say things here that we would do on FB or Twitter..which is why this place is unique.

**Keep the Corner!!**" Linnyette Richardson Hall, Premier Event Management

My thanks to each of the planners who contributed with their permission to this article.
